The challenging hike to the 2.196m highe mountain Kalbling and Sparafeld 2.247m Sparafeld begins at the lodge – Oberst Klinke Hütte (Trail No. 655). You can also start the hiking tour from the Kaiserau over the Lahngangkogel 1.778m, or on the opposite side of the Kreuzkogel 2.011m a longer tour to the Kalbling. With the starting point on the Oberst Klinke Hütte 1.486m you’ll hike in a half-day a very beautiful trip for experienced hikers. Due to a sometimes narrow trail with lots of loose rock and steep terrain, you should ensure you have good equipment and especially wear appropriate hiking shoes. However, the hike is much easier than it hints at the prospect of starting point. The Oberst Klinke Hütte you’ll reach as we described in the mtb tour Kaiserau on a 5km-long toll road. Both trails are marked very well.

In just a few minutes we reach the Kalblinggatterl to 1.542m. Either via a footpath that begins at the right side of the Oberst Klinke Hütte, or on the gravel road. From the hiking cross Kalblinggatterl it goes steep uphill to the north to the steeply south side of the mountain Kalbling. After about 900m we leave the meadows and trees behind us and the trail becomes increasingly rocky and narrow.
After 1.5 km are a few memorials for climbers who crashed in the south wall of the Kalbling. A sure sign that the mountain in the region gesäuse is also very popular for climbers. After 2.2 km you reach the crossind Riffel - Kalbling at an elevation just under 2,000 and a few hundred yards on the right path we reach the ridge on the north side of the Kalbling. At the beginning of the small plateau at 2.140m is the crossing Sparafeld - Hiking trail No. 656 and Kalbling No. 655th. To the top of Kalbling there are only 300 meters from there and not particularly difficult. The prospect of the Gesaeuse, Haller Mauern, Rottenmanner Tauern and Ennstal is very wonderful. With a little luck you can also see deer, red deer or chamois.

To Sparafeld we go back first 300 meters to the crossing and then on the trail No. 656. The first 500m are relatively flat and very easy to go. The last 300m to the summit of Sparafeld are much more demanding. The narrow and steep trail again demanded a high slip resistance, but apart from a few small rock steps, but this is not particularly difficult. A safety rope is not available and its not even necessary. At last we’ll hike back on the same way to the starting point at the Oberst Klinke Hütte.

The Kaiserau offers also a bike tour in the summer and in winter many people come into the family-friendly ski area near Admont for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, cross country skiing and for wonderful ski tours.
