The trail around lake Altaussee is 7.8 kilometers long and has some very slight gradients of a few meters, so the total altitude amount to only 68m. The height profile describes the hike clockwise from Fischerndorf to Seewiese and after Altaussee back. Who wants to see more from the Salzkammergut and the mountains in the Dead Mountains can e.g. hike from the "Seewiese" at the other end of the lake Altaussee on the pastures Augstwiesalm and Wildenseealm to lake Wildensee at 1535m. The hikes on the Tressensattel to Grundlsee, Tressenstein, Ahornkogel and Trisselwand are very interesting.


The community Altaussee is located in the northwestern part of Styria and the Styrian Salzkammergut on the lake Altaussee. This 214ha large, beautifully landscaped situated alpine lake with a maximum depth of 52.8 m - 712m above sea level, was always been an attraction for many artists and important personalities.

Altaussee is divided into Altaussee and Lupitsch, or in the 5 towns Altaussee, Fischerndorf, Puchen, Lichtersberg and Lupitsch. The first settlements around the Altaussee emerged around the year 800th. Today, the community Altaussee has about 1900 residents.

The mountain Loser in the Styrian Salzkammergut Altaussee is considered the symbol of the Ausseerland. From Altaussee towards Blaa Alm extending the ski resort of to the opposite mountains: Loser 1838m and Sandling 1717m. The skiing area in the valley lies at an altitude of 854Hm.

On the Sandling was built specifically for snowboarders, a new fun park. This area for kids at the base station offers great fun in the snow and the high plateau on the Loser is known for his deep snow slopes. On the Loseralm, Loser hut and the Loser restaurant you can relax in a sunny location and with the best views of the Ausseerland and lake Altaussee really good.
