The walk from Gaishorn to Mödlingerhütte offers 2 possibilities. First you can take the entire hike on a beautiful forest road, or you drive on the toll road 7 km up with the car. The parking lot is for about 30 cars. From this parking lot the walk to the Mödlinger hut takes only 15 minutes. The first 2km from Gaishorn to the toll station are still easy with an average gradient of about 5%. The other 5 km have an average gradient of 13 percent. Several cuts have a slope of about 20%. Even those who drive by car up to the parking lot have between km 7 and km 7.5 a gradient with ca. 30%.

The Mödlingerhütte is an alpine hut of the Austrian Alpine Association - Section of Mödling. The Ennsvalley is in the middle of Austria and was named after the largest river in the valley. The Enns is a 254 kilometers long tributary of the Danube. It rises in the province of Salzburg in the Radstätter Tauern. From Salzburg the Enns flows eastwards through Styria. Between Admont and Hieflau in Upper Styria, the Enns breaks through a Narrow valley - the Gesäuse in the Ennstal Alps before it flows north to Upper Austria. The Ennsvalley is one of the major valleys in Austria, and forms the geological boundary between the Northern Limestone Alps and the Central Alps south of the river Enns.
