For the Mountain tour to the summit "Großer Knallstein 2.599m" no climbing skills are required. On the demanding route 791 are no safety ropes and ladders, and requires no special fear of heights. In any case, you should be in good fitness, high slip resistance, have good hiking boots and a well-filled backpack. Since there is no managed pasture on the Mountain tour, you have to take along enough food. In addition, one should not forget your sunscreen on, wind jacket, cell phone and walking map. The whole walk should take about 9-10 hours. Starting point for the hike to the summit Großer Knallstein is the village St. Nikolai in Sölktal. A very beautiful idyllic village in the Alps. At both city limits there are sufficiently good parking. At the inn Gamsjäger and past the church you go first a few hundred meters through the village. Approximately one hundred meters after the music home you cross the small bridge straight over the brook Bräualmbach. Up to 2.2 km, follow the forest road and then take the very well-marked trail No. 791. Following the trail you must cross the forest road twice, in between where you just follow the forest road until it goes again on the trail. The last piece before the hut Kaltherbergalm consists of a narrow forest road. The hut Kaltherberghütte at 4.1 km and 1612m, is not managed, but in the fountain in the front almost always a couple of beers and soft drinks and there are also two benches and a table. Payment is with € 2 coins and 50 cent coins simply for the small spot near the front door. After crossing the 500m wide and only slightly sloping meadow the challenging ascent begins to the lake "Unterer Klaftersee" to 1.890m. This section of the first through the forest and then through pine fields is about 800m long and has an average gradient of 31%. Before the next 1.4 km of the lake "Oberer Klaftersee" past continues with 26% you can relax next to the "Unterer Klaftersee" 300m long nor short. After seven kilometers and a height of 2.260m you'll reach a small plateau with about 100m before it goes on the last leg to the summit of the "Großer Knallstein". At this level there is then no longer a pine fields more and you have a full view of the beautiful mountains of the Nature Park "Naturpark Sölktäler". The first 800m in the last section with about 38% are again very steeply before you hike the last 300m with only 10% to the peak cross on the summit of the mountain "Großer Knallstein" 2.599m. Besides the sky is clear at this level you have always to watch the clouds, it can happen very quickly that the summit will be wrapped entirely or partially in the clouds. Although the trail is marked all 10-20m very nice, but a beautiful summit is always without clouds. Who wait like me because of clouds floating by can still wants to go before the last leg of the 200m at 30 Hm deeper lake Weißensee. From the top of the Großer Knallstein you have a very good view, as this mountain is the greatest far and wide. Who is very quiet during the ascent can, for example next to the beautiful flowers with a little luck also see marmots or chamois. The descent from the summit Großer Knallstein at St. Nikolai in Sölktal back is on the same track Nr.791. |
