The MTB - Tour to Mödlingerhütte in Gaishorn - Liezen - Styria - Austria is very demanding. The first 2 km up to the toll station in Gaishorn with an average gradient of about 5% is still very light and perfect for warming up.

The next 5 kilometers have an average gradient of 13%. They are already difficult enough, since many pieces have been about 20%. To top off the mountain bike tour to Mödlingerhütte, or as total hardness testing, I refer to the section from Km 7 to 7.5. Here was omitted on some turns and they have built the forest road almost directly up the slope. The 500m with an average gradient of 26%, to a few meters, there are more than 30 percent. About half of this section, I'm staying with over 180 pulse and become a hiker.

I admire every mountain biker who is managing this slope and congratulate him for this great achievement. Moreover, the road is not solid and compact, but a lot of loose gravel makes it still more difficult. Technically very demanding, because you can have very careful to be on the front wheel of sufficient weight to turn to mountain bikes too.

Do you have the hardest pitch of the Mountain - Tour Mödlingerhütte left behind you, you've got a feeling of total relief. The forest before the Mödlingerhütte opens and you have the goal in Mödlingerhütte already a few hundred meters before in sight. It returns in the final meters, no significant rise more, but you have the wonderful views of the Mödlingerhütte with the mountain Reichenstein in the backdrop and the view into Paltental and on the other side into Johnsbachtal. After the pulse has calmed down, you can relax on the sun terrace of the Mödlingerhütte. Before you return on the same stretch to Gaishorn, there is the possibility that you can go to a small, romantic lake only a few hundred meters in the direction of Admonter Reichenstein. From this lake, I've made photos, but it is not included in the GPS data of the Mödlingerhütte MTB - tour.

During the ascent of Gaishorn to the Mödlingerhütte there are only a few vantage points as almost the entire mountain bike - tour leads through a dense forest. This is especially on hot summer an especially big advantage because it allows a better bike when the sun never shines directly on the road. At eight clock is still the whole mountain slope from Gaishorn to the Mödlingerhütte in the shadow of the rising sun.
This forest of Gaishorn to Mödlingerhütte also is a toll road. Cars are allowed to drive for 3 euros until km 7. There is a parking lot for approximately 30 cars. So no mass movement, but one reason for no wild descents back to Gaishorn. For the mountain bikers there are up to the toll station a second opportunity (in the Google map shown in red).

The Mödlingerhütte is an alpine hut of the Austrian Alpine Association - Section of Mödling. Landscapes are particularly beautiful is the situation with the backdrop of Admonter Reichenstein and Ödstein. The Mödlingerhütte is on the Eisenerzer Treffneralm on 1523m in the Alps - Gaishorn / Liezen / Styria / Austria.
The easiest way to Mödlingerhütte is from Gaishorn. By car, it is possible to on the toll road until to the parking lot, about 1 km off the Mödlingerhütte. Then there are only about 15min to walk to the Mödlingerhütte. The mountain bike ride on the same toll road is only recommended for trained mountain bikers, but a very beautiful experience. By Johnsbach in Gesaeuse a hiking trail leads to the Mödlingerhütte. Even the Oberst Klinke hut - above the Kaiserau - keep a track in 1.5 to 2 hours to the Mödlingerhütte. For mountaineers and climbers, the classic routes on Sparafeld, Admonter Reichenstein and Totenköpfl are interesting.

The hut is owned by the ÖAV (Austrian Alpine Association) section of Mödling and was opened in 1914. From 1996 to 2008, the Mödlingerhütte was restored. The investments amounted to about 500,000 Euro. The Mödlingerhütte is open from mid May to late October. Each year, the Mödlingerhütte has about 4000 guests. The Mödlingerhütte offers mountain climbers and hikers of 57 mattresses and 14 beds for an overnight stay in a great, cozy, rustic atmosphere.

The market town Gaishorn is located in the valley "Paltental" - Liezen - Upper Styria. The approximately 1,100 inhabitants live in a diverse landscape. On the north are the Limestone Alps - Eisenerzer Alps with a very typical example for Gesaeuse steep, rugged mountains with little forest. In the south are the Seckauer Alps and west of the lake Gaishorn are the Rottenmanner Tauern with the gentler and much more meadows and forests existing "Zentralalpen" (central Alps).
The population in Gaishorn is deeply traditional. So often find events e.g. folk songs. Gaishorn applies with its festivals, composers workshop and traditional events as the stronghold of the Styrian folk culture.

Gaishorn is also known for its events at the Winter Triathlon. It has held World Cup competitions, European Championships and 2009, even the Winter Triathlon World Championships. The company Endless-Sports GmbH offers, among other things for triathletes, swimmers and cyclists important training facilities. Example, there is a wind tunnel for cyclists and a counter for the swimmers to improve technique or to conduct material testing.
Gaishorn leisure facilities - summer: hiking, mountain biking, cycling, swimming, fishing.
Gaishorn leisure facilities - Winter: Ice skating, cross country skiing, curling, ice hockey, Winder hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and sledding.

The Ennsvalley is in the middle of Austria and was named after the largest river in the valley. The Enns is a 254 kilometers long tributary of the Danube. It rises in the province of Salzburg in the Radstätter Tauern. From Salzburg the Enns flows eastwards through Styria. Between Admont and Hieflau in Upper Styria, the Enns breaks through a Narrow valley - the Gesäuse in the Ennstal Alps before it flows north to Upper Austria. The Gesäuse: The National Park Gesäuse in the Ennstal Alps - Gesäuse with 11,054 hectares, the third largest national park in Austria. The highest mountain is the Hochtor with 2370m. The two massifs Buchsteinmassiv and Hochtormassiv consist of Dachstein limestone and Ramsau dolomite. It's always very impressive how the Enns has blazed a path through the mountains. The Enns is specifically in the area of the entrance Gesaeuse not an inert, but a raging, wild river. If you want to do exactly, book a rafting trip on the Enns. The wild, romantic Gesaeuse is an attraction for thousands of hikers, whitewater paddlers, cyclists, hikers and those seeking relaxation. The "capital" in the Gesaeuse, or "Xeis referred to is the small village Gstatterboden. The national park's pavilion in Gstatterboden is an opportunity to appeal on the bike lap Gesaeuse a longer break. The architecture of the building and a modern restaurant with a sunny terrace and good views are very interesting. The multimedia exhibition on geology, which also experiences in the natural park-located pavilion Gstatterboden, one very interesting way to learn more about the geology and origin of the Gesaeuse.

There are, for example, a virtual climb, a virtual downhill skiing on a glacier ice and a virtual flight over the National Park Gesäuse. The car park at the National Pavilion in Gstatterboden is also the starting point of the official Hochscheibenalm mountain bike tour passes through the middle of the National Park Gesäuse. An insider tip among all the mountain bikers, as it next to the demanding tour on the Hochscheibenalm (1195m), also the beautiful, natural landscape in the national Gesaeuse very good to know.
