As a starting point for the "MTB - Tour Garstnertaler Höhenrunde" offer equally the beautiful Upper Austrian places Spital am Pyhrn (644m) and Rosenau am Hengstpaß (at 687m). Described here, very well marked mountain bike - tour starts at the tourist office in Spital am Pyhrn and offers a total of 30 km and 928 altimeter. Starting in Rosenau in beautiful landscapes, the mountain bike ride round "Garstnertaler Höhenrunde" is 20.7 km with 691 altimeter. Since the return trip on the paved road from Spital am Pyhrn from Flinderlmühle and Oberweng to Spital am Pyhrn eliminated. From the tourist office in Spital am Pyhrn you go first on the Pyhrnpaß road B138 a kilometer in the direction to Windischgarsten. Beside the road a wider cycle lanes has been created. Immediately after going under railway bridge went through, turn right and drive on a nice paved road up to Oberweng (851m). The average slope between km 1 and km 3 is around 9%. Between km 3.5 and km 4.8 at the crossing Flinderlmühle the road is almost flat. At the crossing Flinderlmühle just go straight and turn after about 200m (at km 5) to the left on the forest road towards Pramfelder Reith and Schwarzkogel. The 5.2 km long forest road up to Schwarzkogel has an average gradient of 8.5% and no difficult sections with slopes of more than 10%. The pasture on the Pramfelder Reith at km 7.8 (1.100m) is cultivated from June to September. The highest point on the MTB Tour Garstnertaler Höhenrunde on the Schwarzkogel you'll reach after 10.2 km with 1.307m. The forested transition to the black Kogel itself offers no good view. But if one go on the forest road just before the highest point to the right a few hundred meters, you come to a treeless area with beautiful views of the Garstnertal, Dead Mountains, and the mountains Scheiblingstein and Pyhrgas. After the easily downhill in the Innerrosenau are betwenn the Biathlon Center and the confluence with the Hengstpaßroad the 3 snack stations Hinterreither, Ebentalgut and Lambergerteich. From Schwarzkogel to the intersection on the outskirts of Rosenau am Hengstpaß where it is left up towards Zottensberg (about 300m after the inn Maurerwirt), drive 11 km long and 620Hm downhill again. The slope up to mountain inn Zottensberg (877m - toboggan run in winter) at 907m is 2.8 km long, has 220Hm and is down to a short flat section before the mountain inn Zottenberg uniformly increasing. The final 6.5 km to the finish in Spital am Pyhrn from the crossing Flinderlmühle offer some wonderful views. Fitness, mountain bikers can ride on in Rosenau am Hengstpaß before Zottensberg first to Windischgarsten and install the MTB Tour Windischgarsten - Langfirst in the tour and drive then over the Zottensberg to Spital am Pyhrn back. Because of the long, steep forest path from Innerrosenau up to Egglalm i cannot recommend to drive the MTB Tour Windischgarsten - Langfirst in the opposite direction. |

Spital am Pyhrn is located in the Upper Austrian district Kirchdorf an der Krems - region Traunviertel. With the districts Fahrenberg Gleinkerau, Spital am Pyhrn, Oberweng and Seebach live about 2.200 inhabitants in the holiday region Pyhrn-Priel. The Windischgarstnervalley is connected via the Hengstpaß with the Styrian Enns valley. Large parts of Rosenau am Hengstpaß be in the national park.Activities at the Rosenau Hengstpaß in winter: 1.3 km floodlit toboggan, cross country skiing 26 km biathlon Center Innerrosenau, ski, curling. The Austrian National Park Kalkalpen encompasses the Upper Austrian Alps at 20.825 km² in the both alps Reichraminger Hintergebirge and Sengsengebirge. The seat of the Limestone Alps National Park is located in Molln. Additional visitor centers are in Windischgarsten and Reichraming. 81% of the national park are forest, 11% meadows and rocks and 8% are made of sandals. The forests consist mainly of spruce, beech and fir trees. In nature area (89%), there are virtually no human impact and in the preservation area (11%) is paid to the nature of tolerance. The largest mountain in the National Park Kalkalpen is the Hoher Nock with 1.963m. 88% of the National Park Kalkalpen, founded in 1997 include the Republic of Austria, 11% are privately owned and 1% is community property.
