| The community Donnersbachwald is located in a south-facing side of the Ennstal - Liezen - Styria - Austria. The parking lot at the start of the designated mountain bike trails in Donnersbachwald is reached after 18 kilometers from the junction of the B320 federal road on Irdning and Donnersbach on the B75. Donnersbachwald is a small community with a population of 400 at an altitude of 980-1100m. In the summer Donnersbachwald provides specifically for hikers and mountain bikers many leisure activities. | The community Donnersbach located a few miles south of Irdning in Ennstal - Liezen - Styria - Austria. Covering an area of 73.35 kilometers ² live about 1,200 inhabitants. Donnersbach developed after ore mining (gold, iron, zinc, lead and silver) in the 20th Century into a tourist resort with the ski area Planneralm. In the summer Donnersbach and Donnersbachwald is a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers and cyclists. The Wölzer Tauern offer many beautiful and mostly easy hiking trails to a height of about 2.300m to 2.500m.
By Donnersbach an 11-kilometer mountain road leads to the Planneralm. At an altitude of 1,600 m from Planneralm the highest ski village in Styria and offers with 13 huts and mountain restaurants in addition to good food, wonderful hotels and après-ski. | The Ennsvalley is in the middle of Austria and was named after the largest river in the valley. The Enns is a 254 kilometers long tributary of the Danube. It rises in the province of Salzburg in the Radstätter Tauern. From Salzburg the Enns flows eastwards through Styria. Between Admont and Hieflau in Upper Styria, the Enns breaks through a Narrow valley - the Gesäuse in the Ennstal Alps before it flows north to Upper Austria. In the last section is the Enns, the boundary between Upper and Lower Austria. Between the villages of Mauthausen and Enns empties the Enns, as 100m wide river, into the Danube.
The Ennsvalley is one of the major valleys in Austria, and forms the geological boundary between the Northern Limestone Alps and the Central Alps south of the river Enns. The mountains of the northern Limestone Alps are often very steep and less forested than the south of the Central gentler mountains are more accessible for hikers. Where the mountains from east to west are becoming increasingly burdensome. The upper Ennsvalley at the border between the Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Styria, the Enns river flows south past the Dachstein glacier.
