The heavy and technically difficult cross-country ski trail on the Planneralm in Donnersbach - Liezen / Steiermark / Austria - is three kilometers long and only suitable for fit, experienced skiers. Because of the altitude of 1625 to 1720m this is a ski trail with always a lot of snow. From the parking lot on the Planneralm by the lift ticket office, you reach the cross-country walk (green line in the Google Map) on a steep road. What is actually not a disadvantage, because the cross-country ski trail on the Planneralm begins on the first few kilometers with a 10% slope and you'll warm up on the access. For the cross country skiing have been used existing forest roads, to protect the natural. It just results in the difficult terrain of the Planneralm ski area and just a classic track and a skating lane. The only flat section on the Planneralm trail after the slope is 500 meters long but offers some very beautiful views of the mountains surrounding the valley of Planneralm. Then it goes back to a difficult descent with some tight turns to the finish. As the trail and the toboggan run, twice crosses, you should leave only a very moderate and controlled pace. The Planneralm offers sporty addition to the interesting cross-country skiers also an excellent infrastructure. When the lift ticket office, there is a payphone, ATM machine, a public toilet and even a sports shop. Who can cross-country skiing after the hungry or thirsty, hotels, guest houses and lodges on the Planneralm very easily reached on foot, because they lie within only a few hundred meters. In winter is the Planneralm a very popular ski resort with 15 km slopes and 5 lifts at an altitude of 1600m to 2200m. Because of its excellent altitude the ski area Planneralm can offer from December to April, natural snow. Especially in winter offers Donnersbach with the ski resorts Planneralm and Riesneralm (Donnersbachwald) very nice slopes for skiers and snowboarders. Also for cross-country skiers, there are very good situated cross country skiing slopes. In summer Donnersbach has many attraction for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers. The Planneralm is one of the highest altitude ski villages in Austria and offers winter guests with 13 mountain huts and restaurants along with good food and après ski. A paradise for children who playing Indians, cowboy or knight. Approximately 2 kilometers in front of the Planneralm lies at an altitude of 1336m the rustic Schrabachalm, near the Planneralm road. Who wants to have at Planneralm a cosy snack, make it best from late May to late September in the Schrabachalm. Especially good taste of homemade Styrian cheese, fresh mountain butter, buttermilk, homemade pastries, bacon and Styrian donuts. There is the possibility of self-catering chalet for rent, and also the quaint Schrabachalm including sauna can be rented. |
| The community Donnersbachwald is located in a south-facing side of the Ennstal - Liezen - Styria - Austria. The parking lot at the start of the designated mountain bike trails in Donnersbachwald is reached after 18 kilometers from the junction of the B320 federal road on Irdning and Donnersbach on the B75. Donnersbachwald is a small community with a population of 400 at an altitude of 980-1100m. In the summer Donnersbachwald provides specifically for hikers and mountain bikers many leisure activities. The 9 MTB tours in Donnersbachwald and the Planneralm include easy to difficult mountain bike tours. From the cozy family-friendly mountain bike tour to Riedleralm long and up to 28 degrees steep slopes on the mountain bike tour Riesneralm and Mörsbachalm, to the single-track trails on the Lärchkaralm and Stallaalm mountain bike tour. All mountain bike tours have their starting point at the parking lot in Donnersbachwald and therefore we can combine trips together beautifully. By Riesneralp lifts can be even in summer (early July to mid September), drive to the top seat at 1820m, and start from there, the walks.
