Schladming is the tourist center of the Dachstein Tauern Region and has approximately 4,600 inhabitants. Right in the district of Schladming is the base station of the Planai cable railway and the après ski inn Hohenhaus Tenne. The 32km ski slopes are located at an altitude of 745m to 1902m. Of this, 30km are easy to moderate slopes and are 2km difficult ski slopes. On the Planai there are every year important ski race e.g. Alpine Ski World Championships 1982 or in 2013. The night slalom in Schladming is an annual highlight for the best slalom racers in the world. About 50,000 enthusiastic spectators a ski race has only very rarely. The Devil parade in Schladming is among the best and largest parades in Austria. Each year, hundreds of devil, witches, angels and santa and their companions take part in Schladming in the very worth seeing event. Continuous barrier fence and folders provide a regulated flow to each of the thousands of spectators as possible without bruising comes home. The construction of the railway line through the Ennsvalley in the end of the 19th Century developed Schladming becoming a popular winter resort. The first ski lift was in operation in 1953. The Planai is the largest ski resort in Schladming and is part of great ski area "Ski Amade" in styria and salzburg. The base station is located in the metropolitan area and major events such as the Night Race (Skislalom) come up to 50,000 spectators to Schladming. After 1982 in Schladming in 2013 again held the World Alpine Ski Championships. Many of the Alpine Ski World Cup downhill race held on the Planai already happening. In the summer ends at the destination station of the Planai the 4.5 km long downhill stretch for mountain bikers. For several years, are also regularly conducted events UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Schladming.
